EVENT is FREE in this year and includes Pizza (from Glass Nickel Pizza) and soda!

With generous underwriting from KEVA and the Ballweg Family of Dealerships and with the ongoing theme, “KICK IT AT KEVA,” the FREE event series is open to all area 7th through 12th graders (including Dane county and surrounding counties) offering a sober alternative for teens looking for some good, clean fun.

And the emphasis is on “fun!” Participants can choose from a variety of coached sports, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, badmitton and dodgeball as well as Wii and board games. There is always pizza (from Glass Nickel Pizza) and soda as well as a lounge to hang out in....a great way to make new friends. This year will bring surprise, local celebrity athletes popping in on occasion to play sports with the kids. In the past Ron Dayne and members of the University of Wisconsin-Madison men’s basketball team have dropped by.

What makes these events so cool? Just ask President/coordinator and Middleton High School sophmore Evan Stone, whose older sister, Ali Stone, began Sober Saturday Nights in 2009.

“Sober Saturday Nights have become so popular that kids keep asking for more,” says Stone. “It's great to have something fun, safe, sober and social to do other than hang out with friends at home. Where else can teens go to play sports for three hours, have a pizza party, and get a cool new T-shirt...for free?

That’s right. New this year is that the event is made absolutely free, thanks to the generosity of the Ballweg Family of Dealerships.

Dana Ballweg, who is in recovery for a  cocaine addiction is proud that her family is firmly committed to Sober Saturday Nights. Dana started using in 5th grade and understands firsthand the importance of creating a sober free arena for kids to hang.

Says Ballweg, “We’re so passionate about this event because of the overwhelming need to give teens a sober, social alternative to parties. We’re thrilled and fortunate that we can make them free and accessible to all who want to participate. Last year, kids came from every middle and high school as far away as the Wisconsin Dells. We hope even more kids will come this year!”
